Discover the Great Pyramid

Discover the Great Pyramid

  • Situated on the Giza Plateau, the Great Pyramid is a must-see landmark of ancient Egypt. The Great Pyramid, the tomb of King Khufu (c.2589–2566 BC), with its original height of 146.5 meters, was the tallest structure in the world for 3,800 years. It remains the last surviving member of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and took an estimated 10 to 20 years to build. To this day, it is not entirely certain how it was built.
  • Additionally, the equally remarkable pyramids of Khafre and Menkaure can be found nearby. Adjacent to these structures are the more minor but significant queens' pyramids, which served as the tombs for Khufu's wives and sisters.

Admire the Pyramid of Menkaure

Admire the Pyramid of Menkaure

  • Menkaure (Mykerinos to the ancient Greeks; c.2532–2503 BC) is the builder of the third of the three large Giza Pyramids. He was most likely the son of Khafre (Chefren) and grandson of Khufu (Cheops). With a base area that is less than a quarter of their pyramids’, and with an original height of 65 meters, Menkaure’s is by far the smallest of the three. This size reduction is due to several factors, including the limited amount of space left on the Giza Plateau. The material used for the outer casing of Menkaure’s pyramid is another. Whereas his predecessors had used limestone for this purpose, Menkaure employed granite, which was quarried in Aswan, over 800 km away. In addition to the logistics involved in the transportation of the granite blocks, the material itself is much harder than limestone. However, only the bottom quarter of the casing stones are made of granite, the rest being limestone.

Admire the Pyramid of Khafre

Admire the Pyramid of Khafre

  • Khafre Pyramid is the second largest pyramid in Egypt, only about 10 meters lower than the Great Pyramid. The pyramid is unique in that the remains of the original cladding have been preserved in its upper part. Khafre built his pyramid at Giza next to his father’s pyramid, his pyramid complex is better preserved than others, thanks in part to an innovative construction method using massive limestone blocks enclosed in a sheath of thin-facing slabs. The entire complex served as a temple for the resurrected god-pharaoh after his funeral.

Stand in front of the Great Sphinx of Giza

Stand in front of the Great Sphinx of Giza

  • Colossal statues are one of the hallmarks of ancient Egyptian civilization, and the Great Sphinx of Giza is the most famous. It was carved directly out of the bedrock during the 4th Dynasty (c.2613–2494 BC), which also makes it the oldest. Ancient Egyptian sphinxes represented the king with the body of a lion, in a clear demonstration of his power.

Discover the Valley Temple of Khafre

Discover the Valley Temple of Khafre

  • The mortuary temple of Khafre at the foot of his pyramid and the valley temple at the end of the causeway are larger than any of those of older pyramids, and also among the best preserved of the Old Kingdom. Another development in the reign of Khafre is the complexity of their layout, with the elements constituting his mortuary temple becoming the new standard that its later Old Kingdom counterparts would follow. A unique feature of Khafre’s complex is the inclusion of a colossal statue beside his valley temple the Great Sphinx. The valley temple is made of massive limestone blocks encased in granite, floors made of alabaster, and its wide hall features monolithic granite pillars.

Tour to Saqqara

Saqqara Necropolis Tour

  • The next stop on your itinerary is the Step Pyramid of King Djoser, which dates back to around 2630 BC, within the Saqqara archaeological site. Your visit here will last approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Discover the Step Pyramid of King Djoser

Discover the Step Pyramid of King Djoser

  • Explore the awe-inspiring Saqqara Step Pyramid. This remarkable architectural marvel stands as the very first pyramid ever constructed and marked the inception of a magnificent era in construction. Crafted under the masterful guidance of Imhotep, the vizier of Pharaoh Djoser, this pyramid boasts a distinctive six-step design and reaches a towering height of 62 meters. Surrounding the pyramid is a complex adorned with stunning embellishments and grand ceremonial edifices, a pioneering feat in its time.

Tour to Dahshur

Tour to Dahshur

  • Dahshur was the southern part of the cemetery of Memphis, the capital of ancient Egypt. Pyramids of the kings of the Old and Middle Kingdoms were erected on this hill. The first king of the 4th Dynasty Sneferu chose the rocky plateau of Dahshur to establish his first pyramid to compete with the pyramid of King Djoser in Saqqara but failed to complete it. This first attempt turned into a broken shape, but he built a complete pyramid at a distance from it, called the Red Pyramid. Nearby, the pyramids dating to the Middle Kingdom, starting from King Amenemhat II's pyramid, stand in a bad state. The tombs of the princesses Sit-Hathor and Ment surround the pyramid of King Senwosret III.
  • As for the Black Pyramid of King Amenemhat III, it is also in poor condition of conservation. Despite the erosion of its stones, it is still standing at a distance from the pyramid of Sneferu. The stone pyramidion, the tip of the pyramid, is on display at the Egyptian Museum. Several other pyramids of the 13th Dynasty were built at Dahshur.

Discover the Bent Pyramid

Discover the Bent Pyramid

  • The Bent Pyramid is an ancient Egyptian pyramid located in the royal necropolis of Dahshur, about 40 miles south of Cairo. Built around the 26th century BC, the Bent Pyramid is known for its unique shape, which gives it its name, it's one of the best attractions in Egypt tours that you will discover.

Tour to the Red Pyramid in Dahshur

Tour to the Red Pyramid in Dahshur

  • The Red Pyramid is the highest in Dahshur, and its name “Red” is due to the reddish rusty colour of its blocks. It was not this colour originally, but a beautiful pure white of limestone of Tura, south of modern Cairo. All pyramids had a casing made of white limestone, which was reused in medieval times. It is the third-largest Egyptian pyramid after those of Khufu and Khafre at Giza. The Red Pyramid was one of three pyramids built by King Sneferu after the Bent Pyramid, located one kilometre to the south, and the so-called Meidum pyramid. This pyramid may have been started in the 13th year of his reign, taking 10 years to be built.

Grand Egyptian Museum

This mega museum in Giza will showcase Tutankhamun’s burial treasures for the first time, all at the same place, including 2,000 artefacts that have never been made public before. A visit to the Grand Egyptian Museum is a highlight of your Egypt tour.

The Grand Egyptian Museum is situated on 50 hectares (120 acres) of land approximately two kilometres from the Giza pyramids and is part of a new master plan for the plateau.

The building of the museum has a unique beauty. Although it will not rival the beauty of the Giza pyramids it looks like foldings in the desert sand. The Facade of the museum is geometrical in shape with alabaster stone. The museum is designed to line up with the Great Pyramid of Khufu and Menkaure.

The museum building is shaped like a chamfered triangle and while the front of the building has a translucent stone wall, it is the atrium inside that you will marvel at when you arrive.

The museum will house about 100,000 artefacts spanning a history of 7000 years of Egyptian history. With the latest technology in its halls.

One of the artefacts that has been recently transported to the museum is the thirty-foot-high granite statue of King Ramses II. The statue is more than three thousand years old and weighs about eighty-three tons. The statue was placed in a cage that was constructed specifically for the transport, and it was surrounded by a mounted military guard and a marching band for the journey. Once it arrived at the new Grand Egyptian Museum, it was placed inside the atrium where it will greet you every time you walk through the front doors.

While you are visiting this museum, you will be able to wander through exhibition galleries and watch a 3D movie within the cinema. It may be the ancillary buildings, restaurants, and shops that pique your interest the most after you have completed your exploration of history.

Virtual reality has also been incorporated into this new museum space, so every visitor will be able to incorporate the latest in technology during their visit. There is nothing better than feeling like you are being transported back in time as you are experiencing seeing these items for the first time.

What you will see, is the Hanging Obelisk Square in front of the museum, the atrium, the Children’s Museum, the Immersive Hall, the outdoor areas, and retail and food and beverage outlets, which include leading Egyptian brands.

Entry to the atrium will afford access to a selection of remarkable artefacts, including the colossus of Rameses II, the 10 Statues of Senusret, the Sakkara Cannon, the victory column of Meneptah, in addition to the Ptolemaic King and Queen statues.

All other museum interior spaces, including access to the main galleries and the two Tutankhamun galleries, will remain closed in preparation for the full site opening.

From planning to execution, everything was perfect

Posted by Caroline Glick on 31st Jul 2024

I had a fantastic experience from start to finish with the planning and execution of the excursion. All my questions were addressed promptly via WhatsApp, which got me excited about our trip to the pyramids from our hotel in Sahl Hasheesh. The transportation was seamless, thanks to the skilled driver. The guide in Cairo was exceptional, making it a memorable and enjoyable day for me, for which I'm incredibly thankful. During the excursion, we had the opportunity to delve into the intriguing history of pyramid construction. We learned about the various techniques likely used by ancient Egyptian builders, the relationship between the pyramids' locations and astronomical constellations, and the mysterious secrets that shroud these structures. We also visited Saqqara to explore the Step Pyramid, the oldest stone structure in human history. Then we went to Dahshur, where we learned why King Snefru built a bent pyramid and commissioned the first true pyramid nearby. Following this, we had a satisfying lunch, which prepared us for the day's highlight – our visit to the world-renowned pyramids of Cheops, Chephren, and Mycerinus.

Everything was simply great.. nothing more could be asked for.

During our recent trip to Egypt, we enjoyed experiencing two fantastic tours organized by Landious Travel—the pyramid tour and the Luxor tour. We eagerly anticipate our upcoming excursion with them, the dolphin tour. One critical factor for us was that these tours must be conducted in small groups and are not primarily focused on sales pitches. Although we had previously visited Cairo and Luxor on standard bus tours with other operators, we desired a more personalized experience to explore the Saqqara Pyramid in Giza and the Habu in Luxor. Upon extensive research, we found Landious Travel and opted for private tours of both locations. We even made a hassle-free adjustment to our itinerary, switching to the Habu temple visit, far from the standard Luxor tour schedule. We found the guides incredibly accommodating. The vehicles and drivers were excellent, and we appreciated the thoughtful touch of having cold drinks available during the tours. At each destination, our knowledgeable tour guides - Aladin in Cairo and Ali in Luxor- warmly welcomed us. Their expertise and enthusiasm brought the ancient history of Egypt to life captivatingly. Even my husband, who isn't easily impressed, found himself thoroughly engaged by their insights. We learned much about ancient Egypt and its historical sites, making these tours nothing short of first-class experiences. We are eagerly looking forward to returning once the new museum opens. Thank you to the entire team at Landious Travel for providing us with such unforgettable memories.

I want to express my sincere gratitude to Landious Travel for their exceptional organization of our trip to Cairo. The two days we spent immersed in Egyptian history were truly unforgettable. The shuttle transfer to and from the airport in Hurghada was seamless, thanks to our driver. Upon our arrival at the airport in Cairo, we were warmly greeted by our tour guide, who provided us with an incredible wealth of knowledge and made our exploration of historical sites in Sakkara, Dahshur, and Giza feel like a journey back to the time of the pharaohs. Our driver and tour guide made a fantastic team, ensuring we felt like VIPs throughout our time in Cairo. They even arranged for a private boat tour on the Nile, which was great. On the second day, we visited the Egyptian National Museum, the Coptic Quarter, and Khan El Khalili, all genuinely remarkable experiences enriched by our guide's captivating stories and insights. Everything ran like clockwork, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Landious Travel. Thank you once again for making our journey through the history of Egypt genuinely unforgettable.

I highly recommend the presented services

Posted by Jeff Timmer on 15th Jul 2024

My family and I booked two private tours with Landious Travel during our recent trip to Egypt. We opted for private excursions to avoid the large tour groups. Travelling on a private small bus, we felt more comfortable and had a more personalized experience. One of the excursions we went on was the "Pyramid Excursion to Sakkara, Dahshur and Giza (Exclusive)." Two friendly drivers picked us up in Hurghada and took us to our destination, with a few short breaks along the way. In Cairo, our tour guide took us to the Sakkara cemetery to see the Step Pyramid, then to Dahshur to visit the Red Pyramid and the Bent Pyramid, and finally to the famous Giza pyramids and the Sphinx. We also enjoyed a delicious lunch buffet with refreshing juices. Our guide was knowledgeable and answered all our questions. Overall, we were delighted with Landious Travel. The email communication before the trip, the booking process, and the sharing of our group photos were prompt, easy, and hassle-free. Based on our great experience, I highly recommend their services.
