The Monastery of St. Anthony is a complex surrounded by high walls and features churches, chapels, a garden, and a spring. It is dedicated to Saint Anthony, the father of monasticism. The monastery was once home to the hermit Antony, who lived in a cave 680 meters above sea level. Visitors can explore his cell, view ancient writings and depictions, and enjoy breathtaking views of the mountains, desert, and even the Red Sea.
A climb through the mountains leads to the Monastery of St. Paul, built in the 4th century by hermits seeking isolation from the materialistic world. It is located where Saint Paul lived in a cave for 90 years. Visitors can also explore a beautiful cellar adorned with colourful frescoes.
Even if you're not interested in the spiritual aspect, the stunning views from both monasteries make the experience unforgettable.
